Silas Onoja is a Nigerian painter known for  stunning realistic and hyperrealistic paintings. Based in Abuja, Silas’s work captures the essence of his environment and the profound emotions that shape the human experience.

Silas studied Fine Art at Benue State Polytechnic, where he refined his skills in painting. Growing up in a local community, he drew inspiration from his surroundings, translating the everyday beauty and struggles of life into his art. This deep connection to his environment continues to influence his work, driving his desire to depict reality with meticulous detail.

Over the years, Silas has showcased his work in several notable exhibitions. More recently, he exhibited his Artworks at the Art Vancouver Contemporary Art Fair(2025) in Vancouver,British Columbia, Canada where he won the prestigious Art Masters competition after coming first at the painting contest. His solo exhibitions, such as “FREEDOM” held in Chicago (2022) and Abuja (2018), have received critical acclaim for their powerful themes and emotional depth. His participation in group exhibitions, including “Elbowroom” in Abuja (2021), highlights his versatility and ability to connect with diverse audiences. Another significant solo exhibition, “Water,” took place in Oostende, Belgium (2019), further establishing his international presence.

Silas’s paintings often explore themes of freedom and emotions, reflecting his belief in the transformative power of art. He works primarily with oil on cotton canvas, creating detailed, lifelike images that invite viewers to engage deeply with the subjects portrayed. His attention to detail and mastery of his medium have earned him a feature in ALICE, the in-flight magazine of Airpeace, showcasing his work to a broader audience.

Driven by a desire to effect positive change in society, Silas views his art as a conduit for social commentary and emotional expression. Through his paintings, he aims to inspire and provoke thought, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own lives and the world around them.

Currently, Silas is working on new projects that continue to push the boundaries of realism and hyperrealism. With each piece, he strives to capture not just the visual likeness but the essence of his subjects, making a lasting impact on all who encounter his work.
